Anne Thompson Hamby, 87, of Roanoke Rapids died Thursday, October 1, 2009.

Mrs. Hamby was born May 8, 1922 in Jackson, TN. She was the daughter of the late Andrew Van Thompson and Sarah Pegues Thompson. She attended Alabama College in Montevallo, AL and Lambuth College in Jackson, TN to obtain a batchelor of music degree. Mrs. Hamby came to live in Roanoke Rapids in 1950 as a new bride. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. Her husband, John Frank Hamby, preceded her in death in 1992. She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Doug Dickens.

She is survived by her twin daughters, Sarah Dickens of Bumpass, VA and Elizabeth Werner of Reno, Nevada; her son, William ''Bill'' Hamby and his wife, Dianne, of Roanoke Rapids; three grandchildren, Melissa Moseley and her husband, Jason, Elizabeth Patton Henry and her husband, Ross, and John Patton; and one great-granddaughter, Adrienne Moseley.

Memorial services will be held on Sunday, October 4, at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Roanoke Rapids with Rev. C. B. Owens officiating. At Mrs. Hamby’s personal request, her body is being donated to the ECU Brody School of Medicine.
